Perched on the steep slopes of Falsztyn with sweeping views of the Polish mountains, Barn Within is an architectural response to the rugged beauty of the region. Inspired by the vernacular form of traditional shepherd’s huts, we designed a structure that honors local heritage while embracing a radical, modern transparency.
Artistic Life and Separation of Space
Designed for a pair of artists, the building functions as both a sanctuary and a professional workspace.
The Studio: The creative workspace is situated on Level -1, carved into the slope to provide a quiet, focused atmosphere.
Social Living: The upper levels are dedicated to the residents' daily lives and the hosting of guests. This vertical separation ensures that the artistic process remains uninterrupted by the social flow of the home.
Seamless Boundaries
The investors envisioned a life without visual obstacles. To achieve this, we utilized floor-to-ceiling glass walls, ensuring the interior feels like a direct extension of the mountainside. The outdoor terraces are engineered to be perfectly level with the interior floors, creating a seamless transition that blurs the line between the built environment and the wild surroundings.
At Barn Within, NOKE Architects was responsible for both the architectural vision and the interior design, ensuring that the raw, honest materiality of the exterior flows perfectly into the intimate spaces within.
